Madame Tussauds Museum Enhances Visitor Experience with BenQ LU960ST2 Laser Projector
Overview
The Issue

To replace their old lamp projectors and upgrade their immersive exhibits, Madame Tussauds Museum needed to find a green projection solution for its limited space.

The Solution

After having consulted with a system integrator ALGO audiovisual, BenQ laser projectors were chosen by museum for features such as 0.5 short throw lens with lens shift, white colour calibration from factory, and closed optical engine with IPX 5.

The Result

The installation of three BenQ LU960ST2 laser projectors improved the immersive exhibits at Madame Tussauds. The high-quality images and colour uniformity across the projections brought the exhibits to life, making them more dynamic and engaging for visitors. Moreover, the laser technology and dustproof design minimised downtime and maintenance efforts.

Madame Tussauds Museum needed to upgrade their immersive digital equipment to enhance the visitor experience. BenQ laser projectors were integrated to deliver captivating moving images and revitalise the immersive exhibits for a more entertaining experience.

About Madame Tussauds Museum

Madame Tussauds, a well-known wax museum in the heart of Amsterdam, Netherlands, showcases lifelike wax figures of famous celebrities and historical figures across various categories including music, sports, movies, and Dutch history.

Founded in 1970, the museum was the realisation of Josephine Tussaud’s vision, the great-great-granddaughter of Madame Tussauds. In recent years, Madame Tussauds has embraced technological advancements to enhance the visitor experience by incorporating emerging technologies such as laser projectors to present dynamic content including images, videos, audio, and text, creating an engaging and entertaining environment for visitors.

Finding Innovative Solutions to Overcome Challenges

Madame Tussauds Museum faced the challenge of replacing their aging lamp projectors, which were integral to their exhibits. The new projectors had to fit within the limited installation space available behind the glass walls. Moreover, the curved nature of the glass walls required precise geometric corrections for seamless projection. Another critical requirement was maintaining uniform colours and brightness across all projections to preserve the high quality of the exhibits.

Close coordination between the Madame Tussauds Museum, ALGO audiovisual and BenQ made it possible to select the right technology to address these challenges. BenQ 0.5 short throw laser projectors were chosen as they were a high-quality and energy-efficient replacement solution that enhanced the overall visitor experience.

BenQ Laser Projectors Are the Perfect Fit

BenQ’s LU960ST2 projectors were selected for their advanced features and technologies. The 0.5 short throw lens allows installation in tight spaces while maintaining high image quality, making it ideal for the museum's limited installation areas. The 0.5 short-throw function also eliminates unwanted shadows, fading, and interference, keeping visitors' attention focused on the multimedia content.

Thanks to the lens shift feature, precise adjustments could be made to fit the curved glass walls perfectly for proportional image projection without any loss of the image quality.

Factory calibrated white colour feature allows for consistent colour uniformity across all projections, which was crucial to meet the visual standards of the exhibits. With native WUXGA HDR laser projections, the LU960ST2 delivers crisp and realistic colours.

The LU960ST2 projectors also feature a closed optical engine with IP5X-certified dustproofing. This advanced dustproofing system includes sealed laser modules and enclosed light engines to protects critical hardware components from dust intrusion. This leads to significantly reducing maintenance needs and ensuring long-term reliability in environments prone to high levels of dust such as behind the glass walls of the museum.

BenQ's Customised Projection Services

BenQ Projection Services, a fully customised service for the most complex simulation and immersive applications, played a pivotal role in this transformation. Projection experts at BenQ offered invaluable insights into 3D mapping, projector model selection, and installation methods tailored to the museum's unique environment.

The implementation phase saw BenQ and ALGO audiovisual working hand in hand to seamlessly transition from outdated lamp projection systems to state-of-the-art LU960ST2 projectors flawlessly into Madame Tussauds Museum's setup. Geometric corrections were expertly handled to secure precise adaptation of projections to curved glass walls without sacrificing image quality.

“After some testing with different types of projectors, it came out that BenQ’s new product had the dimensions and specs that would suit our projection experience set the best. We are immensely satisfied with the result.”

Outcome

The installation of three BenQ LU960ST2 projectors has significantly enhanced the immersive exhibits at Madame Tussauds Museum. One of the primary benefits from this implementation is the enhanced visitor experience. With the infusion of high-quality projections, the exhibits have been brought to life, offering a dynamic and captivating experience for visitors as they engage with the striking content.

Moreover, the integration of BenQ laser projectors has resulted in reduced maintenance requirements for the museum, which has been of great importance to them based on their past experience. Thanks to the advanced laser technology and dustproof design of the projectors, downtime and maintenance efforts have been minimised, allowing for uninterrupted operation. Furthermore, consistency in performance has been achieved across all glass walls, thanks to the uniform colour reproduction and brightness levels delivered by the LU960ST2 laser projectors.
