Why Drop Proofing is Great for Portable Projectors

When looking for a portable projector, are you aware of how important shock and drop resistance are? You’d be surprised. Or maybe not, if you think about it. After all, portable means mobile, and a projector designed to be moved a lot obviously benefits from a tough design that resists shock and drop damage.

Good portable projectors that are built from the onset for durability prove their mettle in various situations, especially if kids are around. Not only are such projectors compact and light, they’re hardened to withstand the rigours of on-the-go entertainment and also the rising edutainment trend

Why Are Portable Projectors More Popular Than Ever?

In a rapidly changing world where entertainment and education increasingly take place at home and other personal spaces, portable projectors offer excellent versatility. They provide big format viewing of almost any content type virtually anywhere thanks to built-in batteries that liberate them from fixed power sources. That freedom means you can use a portable projector in the comfort of home, or in some pretty wild outdoors locations. Which in turn means you have to choose the right one, and not settle for a cheapo model that’ll break on you the first time it’s knocked off a rocky ledge.

Whatever you do, if you plan to use projectors outdoors, don’t go for tiny, pico projectors. Those lack the resolution, brightness, and battery life needed for serious use, and are most definitely not built to last.

Get Ready for the Drop

Things happen, and if you’re using a portable projector while travelling or basically anywhere with kids, there’s a good chance it’ll get bounced around some. So, you need to choose a projector that’s been factory-tested to survive drops and shocks. As far as drops go, the BenQ GS2 offers resistance against falls from most typical placement situations, which is pretty good. You’re not likely to place or hold it much higher than that, after all.

For outdoor use, such drop and shock resistance are very handy and help ensure you don’t just protect your investment in the projector, but also that the viewing experience continues uninterrupted by a moderately unfortunate but quite normal mishap.

Where Does Drop Proofing Prove Useful?

We could compile a very comprehensive list here, but let’s just look at a few common scenarios, most of which have to do with being outdoors.

  • Camping: with major overseas travel not possible or very feasible these days, road trips offer a good alternative. And a portable projector means entertainment and even learning join you on the open road. Between potholes and the general risk of dropping things while travelling, it’s good to have a projector designed for mobile use with a tough build.
  • Outdoor parties: even in the best of times these events have so many moving parts (and people) that it’s not unthinkable for a projector to get thrown off its perch. With drop resistance, the entertainment goes on and you don’t need to buy a new projector.
  • Outdoor cinema: very similar to outdoor parties but more calm. Still, it’s very possible for a projector to fall off anywhere you place it, whether because someone bumps into it or because the kids are having a little too much fun. Likewise, a protective design proves its merit in such eventualities.
  • Did we mention kids: any situation or location where kids are found may lead to portable projectors and any other object not firmly attached to the ground going flying. Even though portable projectors are entirely wireless and so lack any cables to pull on, their light and compact design means they’re easy targets for the little ones as they run around having fun. It’s a lot better to have a durable projector than to be overly harsh with kids who are simply acting on their natural need to play. Better safe than stifling!
