Why does my monitor have flickering?

05-31-2024

This may be caused by many factors, but in general can be described as unstable brightness, and happens. When you can see light gradations changing too harshly, instead of in a subtle and smooth manner, flicker becomes noticeable. The monitor changes brightness levels in a sudden and fast way that can be very irritating and adds eye strain. But if the flicker gets too bad, there are some things you can do.

  1. Reset your monitor. Open the monitor’s OSD menu, go to System > Reset all > Yes.
  2. Except for the power cord and video cable, remove all devices connected to the monitor.
  3. Ensure your power cord is plugged directly into the wall socket to avoid an unstable power supply that may be caused by a third-party power supply, UPS, or other adapters.
  4. Ensure your input device only connects to this monitor and removes unnecessary connected devices to the input device.
  5. Ensure all video and power cables are properly connected on both ends.
  6. Download the Resolution File from the BenQ website and set your monitor to its native or supported resolution and refresh rate.
  7. Close all software programs, especially drawing software or browsers, to avoid color shift problems caused by software switching ICC profiles in the operating system.
  8. Try a different video cable and video port for the monitor and the input device.
  9. Try the other different types of video cable and video port of the monitor and the input device.
  10. Test the display with another device. If the flicker occurs when using your PC, try the monitor with a console, a different PC, a Blu-ray player, and so on.
  11. If your input device is an M series Mac device, please refer to the article for more information or contact BenQ Support for a solution.

If the flickering persists, the monitor may have defective hardware. Please get in touch with BenQ Support for further assistance.
